Harold Martene Nelson, 92, of 250 Kings Way Road, Martinsville, died Sunday, Feb. 10, 2013, at Memorial Hospital in Martinsville.

Nelson was born in Copan, Okla., on Dec. 23, 1920, to Martin Van Buren Nelson and Jeannetta Cottrill Nelson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ann McKellar Nelson.

The Nelson’s moved to Martinsville in May 1993 and were among the first residents of King’s Grant.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Collinsville where he served on the session and sang in the choir.

Nelson served as a bomber pilot in the 8th Air Force in World War II, and joined IBM as a salesman in January 1946.

Surviving are three sons, Harold C. Nelson of Dryden, Mich., Peter A. Nelson of Herndon and John M. Nelson of Clarksburg, Md.; a daughter, Jeanne A. Chamberlain of Germantown, Md.; a brother, Larry Nelson of Borger, Texas; 11 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Kings Grant Victory Chapel with Chaplain Paul Johnson officiating, and at 2 p.m. Saturday (Feb. 23) at First Presbyterian Church of Collinsville with Pastor John Wiederholt officiating.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.

Norris Funeral Services and Crematory in Martinsville is in charge of arrangements.
