Jersey Shore man dies in Clinton County crash

March 25, 2013

LOCK HAVEN - Authorities have released details surrounding the Saturday crash that took the life of Lock Haven University senior football player Skyler Wool, 22, of Jersey Shore.

According to police records, the crash occurred along Woodward Avenue in Woodward Township, Clinton County. At about 1:30 a.m., Wool was heading north toward Fargus Island Road when his vehicle left the roadway for unknown reasons.

Police believe Wool may have over-corrected his steering to regain control, which caused the vehicle to slide sideways into a utility pole.

The vehicle hit the pole near the passenger side front door, authorities say. The impact was strong enough to sheer off the utility pole and send the vehicle into the air, causing it to strike trees and shrubbery.

Investigators estimate the vehicle traveled about 270 feet after hitting the pole, before coming to rest in the backyard of a home at 518 Guardlock Road.

Wool was declared dead at the scene by Clinton County Deputy Coroner John Hanna.

State police from Lamar were assisted by members of the Pine Creek Township police, Dunnstown and Lock Haven City fire departments, Lock Haven emergency services and members of the state Department of Transportation.

Wool, a Jersey Shore High School graduate, was a 2012 Football Gazette All-Super Region I Team member, an All-PSAC First Team selection and he was nominated for the Gene Upshaw Division II Lineman of the Year Award.
